Part II [Essay]

1 hour


This paper consists of two sections: A and B. Answer three questions in all. Answer question one from section A and any other two questions from section B.  

All questions carry equal marks. Answer all the questions in your answer booklet.  

Credit will be given for clarity of expression and orderly presentation of material.  


SECTION A

COMPULSORY


1. Ali and Kwame worked together at a government office. One day, Mr. Ada offered Ali a large sum of money to speed up the approval of a permit for his project. Although the money was tempting, Ali was not sure if he should accept it. Ali is seeking your advice as a friend:  


   (a) Explain to Ali four reasons for which he should not accept Mr. Ada’s offer;  [12 marks]  


   (b) In your opinion, what four factors may cause Ali to accept Mr. Ada’s offer? [8 marks]  


SECTION B

Answer two questions only from this section.


2. Kofi was raised by his grandmother, who was the spiritual leader of the village. She was always fond of teaching Kofi about the importance of their tradition, including sacrifice. According to her, sacrifices are made on special occasions. On one of the occasions, Kofi accompanied her to perform the sacrifice. As a student of Religious and Moral Education:  


   (a) List four items Kofi and his grandmother were likely to carry with them for the sacrifice; [4 marks]  


   (b) State four of those special occasions that required sacrifice by the teachings of Kofi’s grandmother;   [4 marks]  


   (c) Highlight four importance of sacrifices Kofi might have learnt from his grandmother.  [12 marks]  


3. Abu was excited as the month of Ramadan had just come to an end, and it was time to celebrate Idul Fitr. Soon after, Abu’s family began preparing for the celebration of Idul Adha. Abu became curious and asked his father how different Idul Fitr is from Idul Adha and what these festivals meant to Muslims. As someone who has studied religious festivals:  


   (a) Outline four differences Abu’s father is likely to tell him about the two festivals;  [12 marks]  


   (b) Explain to Abu four reasons why both festivals are important to Muslims.  [8 marks]  


4. At an annual festival, two music groups were invited to perform. One group sang about faith, hope, and trust in God. The other group sang songs that celebrated kindness, unity, and the beauty of life. After the event, the teacher asked the students to think about the differences they observed between the two types of songs performed and what they learnt from them. As one of the students at the event:  


   (a) Identify four differences your teacher is expecting you to give on the two types of songs performed at the event.  [12 marks]  


   (b) Explain to other students who were not at the event four lessons you learnt while listening to the songs.  [8 marks]  


5. (a) Narrate the creation story as found in the Bible.  [12 marks]  


   (b) Explain four ways humans can protect God’s creation.  [8 marks]
